Why extra care with cats?
Urinary tract disease and crystal or stone formation are common in cats, and the oxalate in spinach can contribute. A tiny occasional piece will not trouble a healthy cat, but cats have no nutritional need for spinach either.
Straining to urinate, frequent litter-box trips, or blood in the urine are EMERGENCIES (blockage is life-threatening, especially in male cats) — go to a veterinarian without waiting.
