How to serve
Offer only the pink-red flesh, cut into cubes. Remove the black seeds: a few will not cause trouble, but many seeds — especially in small breeds — can block the intestine. The white-green rind is tough and hard to digest; it can cause gas, diarrhea, and a blockage if large pieces are swallowed.
You can also freeze cubes as a dog-friendly ice treat. Sweetened watermelon-flavored products and syrups are not suitable; give the fresh fruit itself.
